Director’s Notes
Summer has been a busy time for all of us! With the beginning of another school year comes all of our fall tournaments and activities. Our 23rd annual LBJGA Club Championship will begin on Friday September 19th. This 54-hole event takes place on three consecutive Fridays and will decide who will be our champion golfer for 2014. Please notice the entry form on page 2 of this newsletter. At the completion of the tournament the top 16 players (regardless of flight) will move into our Match-Play Championship.
This year we will have a new event for our beginning 9 hole players. Our LBJGA 9-hole Championship will also be 3 rounds on consecutive Fridays. This event is targeted toward our beginners ages 7 to 10 who would like to try their hand at tournament play. Our Club Championship will include flights for boys and girls with awards for both gross scores and net scores minus handicaps. If you do not have a Heartwell handicap with LBJGA a temporary handicap will be assigned to you. This enables players of all levels to compete together. Space is limited for both events so sign up early!
The awards for these events will be presented on Friday December 5th at our annual Holiday Awards Party. Festivities will begin with a putting contest at 4pm followed by a potluck dinner and lots of trophies. Also remember that registrations for the 2015 season will commence on Friday October 3rd and are due by December 7th. The cost will remain $50 and everyone must submit new paperwork including our standard application and release form. Always remember if you have questions or concerns Sheri and I can both be reached in the office at (562) 570-1272.
New Fall Tournaments
In addition to our championship events we will have two new fun events for all of our LBJGA families.
This year Halloween does fall on a Friday. We will not be having our regular schedule of tee times and classes. Instead we are asking all of you to join us for our first LBJGA Glow-Ball tournament. If you have never played in a glow-ball event you are in for a treat! Playing golf in the dark with a glow-ball to a larger cup is an experience all golfers should try. Sheri is planning lots of Halloween fun for both the kids and adults! The format will be a 9-hole Partners Best-Ball. BBQ dinner will be served at 6pm and golf will begin at 7pm. The cost will be $20 per person and will include golf, dinner, trophies, tee prizes, and a glow ball. There will be prizes for the best costumes and lots of treats! (Maybe some tricks along the way!)
We are also planning a Holiday Glow-Ball Tournament for Friday December 19th so stay tuned for more details. Entry forms for both events will be available at the check-in table or the LBJGA office.
