Spring is here! Which means our annual fundraising activities are just a few weeks away.
On Saturday June 7th the LBJGA will hold the 23rd annual D-day Tournament and Live Auction. Heartwell Golf Course is transformed into a layout you will not recognize! Players will need a full set of clubs to navigate our Monster Day format! The event begins with a shotgun start at 1pm. The round of golf is followed by dinner, drawings, and our famous live auction.
Our D-day event is the only fundraiser of the year for the Long Beach Junior Golf Association. We will need help from all of our member families in order to make this event a success once again.
In addition to asking our junior golfers to help with our opportunity drawing, we will need golfers for the tournament and items for the live auction. Please call me to volunteer your help!
The LBJGA will hold its first tournament of the spring on Saturday May 17th at Recreation Park 9 GC in Long Beach. The first tee time will be 12-noon and the cost for 9-holes, tee prize, lunch, and awards will be $20 per player. All members are invited to play and gain experience on a different golf course.
The General Manager at Heartwell GC has asked me to remind all our adults to be cautious when dropping your junior golfers off on Friday afternoons. Please park and walk your golfers into the facility. Do not stop and block traffic coming into the parking lot! Give yourself enough time to arrive early.
Please remember Sheri and I are always available if any issue arises, We can solve your issues if we are notified in a timely manner.
D-day Tournament and Fundraising Activities
Since 1992 the D-day Tournament and Live Auction has been our one and only fundraising event. This year D-day will take place on Saturday June 7th with a 1pm shotgun start at Heartwell GC. The 18-hole tournament is followed by dinner, awards, and our famous live auction.
In addition, we ask every family to contribute to these activities by being responsible for 30 tickets for the annual opportunity drawing. Each year we give away a new set of Callaway golf clubs to the lucky winner. The drawing takes place on June 7th at the conclusion of play. This year we will offer each family the opportunity to buyout of the process by contributing a $25 donation instead of soliciting $30 in donations for the tickets we will provide. We will begin to distribute tickets on Friday April 4th.
The cost per foursome for the tournament is $160. Entry forms will be mailed to each member family.
With everyone's help this event has always allowed us to maintain reasonable costs for our members!
LBJGA Dress Code
Members are to wear their uniforms on all Friday play days including special events. All junior golfers are to conduct themselves in a manner which acknowledges the etiquette, rules and history of the game of golf.
The uniform consists of:
- The LBJGA issued red shirt. Tucked in at all times.
- Pants or shorts of any solid color.
- Girls may wear skirts that reach mid-thigh in length.
- Golf or tennis shoes.
- 5. The LBJGA issued cap or visor, worn with the bill facing forward.
- Hair must be neatly combed.
- LBJGA issued sweatshirt.
-Blue jeans, denims, sweat pants, baggy cargo pants, board shorts, basketball shorts and ‘skinny jeans’ may not be worn at any time.
-Only the LBJGA caps and visors may be worn with the bill facing forward.
-Uniforms must be clean and not wrinkled.
Extra shirts and sweatshirts are available for sale at the check-in table. As a junior golfer grows you may trade in your current uniform for a larger size.
Remember, if you are not in uniform you will not be allowed to participate.

Format: Stroke play with flights for Boys and Girls determined by age.
$20 entry fee includes 9-holes, lunch, trophies, and a tee prize.
Entry forms will be available beginning on Friday April 4th and are limited to the first 48 junior golfers. Entries will close on Saturday May 10th.

Friday Play Day Information
Please note the following information when making your Friday plans:
Tee times are given on a first come/first serve basis up to 8 days in advance.
The Heartwell Pro-Shop only takes messages for us on Friday between 2pm and 6pm. Please call the office for times and information.
When cancelling a tee time, please call the office Monday thru Friday at (562) 570-1272. On Friday play days, there is no one in the office after 2pm! Messages left will be received on Monday!
Juniors must check-in at least 15 minutes prior to there tee-time or risk losing there spot and will be charged $7 to play.

Cell phones must be carried in golf bags during play.
All phones must be turned off during play.
Electronic devices for yardage only may be used in LBJGA events.
I-pods and MP3 players are not permitted during LBJGA events.
The LBJGA is not responsible for lost or stolen items during LBJGA activities.
Remember: Only approved LBJGA uniform items may be worn on Fri play days! Including hats! Trade in the uniforms you have outgrown! Buy extras at the table before 6pm.

2014 D-day Tournament Opportunity Drawing
This year we are again asking each LBJGA member to be responsible for 30 drawing tickets!
You may opt out by buying the tickets at the check-in table on Friday play days for $25 or return the 30 tickets at a later date with $30.
We are giving away a new set of Callaway X2 Hot irons and golf bag on Saturday June 7th @ 5pm. Winner need not be present.
